Adelaide Convention Centre wins back-to-back National Tourism Awards

The Adelaide Convention Centre has won the prestigious Meetings and Business Tourism category at the 2009 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards for the second consecutive year, announced at the presentation dinner in Hobart last night.

The Adelaide icon stood out among tough competition including: Melbourne Convention & Visitors Bureau, Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, Crowne Plaza Newcastle, Hyatt Regency Perth, Alice Springs Convention Centre, and Wrest Point Convention Centre in Tasmania.

Adelaide Convention Centre Chief Executive Officer, Alec Gilbert, credits his seamless team and their Gold Service, Green Attitude for the prestigious accolade.
“We strive to provide world-class facilities and maintain exceptional standards, and the efforts of our dedicated staff ensure the superb conduct at every event held at the Centre.

“Part of the superior product we provide is our commitment to environmental sustainability and we have numerous initiatives in place to reduce our carbon footprint to allow us to provide gold class service while being environmentally responsible,” he said.

The Adelaide Convention Centre is consistently recognised for excellence, ranking among the world’s top convention centres. It has been the winner of AIPC International Innovation Award for Excellence in Convention Centre Management, as well as Meetings & Events Australia Awards for Best Meeting Venue and Corporate Social Responsibility.

This is the second consecutive National Tourism Award for the centre, following the state win in the same category at the 2009 South Australian Tourism Awards and a silver commendation for Excellence in Sustainable Tourism category also in 2009.

“We are proud to provide a first class tourism experience for business travellers, and pleased to contribute to the broader tourism industry.
“With conference delegates convening at the Adelaide Convention Centre, millions of dollars are poured into hotels, restaurants, cafes and tourism operators throughout the state each year,” Mr Gilbert said.

Hosting everything from cocktail parties and weddings, to prestigious business meetings and international conventions, the Adelaide Convention Centre hosted in excess of 600 events, attended by more than 300,000 people and attracting 28,000 visitors to SA in the last year.
