Ms Mato Madlala, Chairperson of the ICC Durban Board is pleased to announce that Ms Julie-May Ellingson has been appointed as the acting Chief Executive Officer of the ICC Durban, effective from 01 April 2011.
The ICC Board has gone through a long and extensive process to find a replacement CEO for the ICC. The Board requires a dynamic person who will not only improve the governance systems within the organization but who will also make the ICC much more competitive. Unfortunately, the Board has not found a suitable candidate as yet.
Jeremy Hurter, who has been acting CEO, has reverted to his position of CFO as his expertise is needed full time in that department.
In addition, the Board has realised that three events, critical to the ICC, the City and indeed South Africa, are being held in the ICC and the Board immediately requires someone to lead the ICC through the preparations for these important events. These are Indaba 2011, the IOC’s 123rd session and COP 17 at the end of the year.
On 24th March 2011 the Chairperson of the Board approached Dr. Sutcliffe to request that he allow Ms. Julie-May Ellingson to be appointed as Acting CEO; ICCD with effect from 1 April 2011 to ensure continuity.
Ms Ellingson’s wealth of experience and her acumen in governance, business and development matters, her recent assistance to the ICCD in some of its upgrade work, and her understanding of the key challenges facing the board makes her a suitable candidate to take the ICCD through this period.
Ms Ellingson brings strategic and operational skills to the ICCD, which are critical as we strive to contribute to national economic growth by ensuring that the ICCD delivers against its strategic goals. The board is confident that the ICCD management team under her leadership will maintain momentum and help to ensure positive growth in business.
Given that Ms Ellingson is currently involved in a number of other initiatives within the city, among which is the coordination of the city’s involvement in these three major conferences, she will continue as Head; Strategic Projects. The Board will undertake a quarterly review and report back to the City Manager on the longer-term process.
The board of directors wishes to thank Jeremy Hurter, the ICCD’s Chief Financial Officer for his unwavering commitment during his term as an acting CEO.
