The Adelaide Convention Centre has installed new web streaming capabilities in all its major meeting venues – a first for Australia.

ACC Chief Executive Alec Gilbert said this would assist in boosting interaction at events enabling delegates to participate in sessions from anywhere in the world via remote access, including active participation such as asking questions, voting and completing questionnaires.

“We have been working with some of the global leaders in technology development to offer these services,” Mr Gilbert said.

“Our vision is to use the latest technology and provide our customers with a simple way to choose and customise technology to make their events unique.”

Mr Gilbert said the web streaming facility would be managed in-house and this means more competitive pricing and packaging for event organisers as well as providing them with the opportunity to explore new revenue streams. This new initiative follows hard on the heels of the recent announcement of the ACC’s own app building capabilities for events.

This web streaming capability means:

  • Conference organisers have the opportunity to record and catalogue sessions and have them available on demand to delegates via the ACC’s in-house Wifi or externally via the Internet.
  • Delegates can interact with presenters after sessions have finished.
  • Delegates are always seeking to get the best value out of their conference but time is limited and often there are multiple sessions of interest happening concurrently. Web streaming means delegates can catch up on missed sessions.
  • An integral part of many technical conferences is the publication of technical papers and display of research by way of poster board displays; electronic web-based alternative which gives delegates the opportunity to read this material wherever they choose - in the hotel, at the conference, or when they return home.
  • Conference organisers have tools to embed conference material such as web streams, poster boards and blogs from the ACC’s servers into their own web pages.
  • The web streaming equipment is portable, so it can be used throughout the ACC.
